A glimpse at my phone gallery

Hi semua :)

Here are some random pictures from my phone that show some of things ive been doing. I dont really take pictures at school cause I dont hold my phone all the time. Sorry for no captions haha *I am lazy

Juma'ah Mubarak :)

They say if your table is messy so is your mind....well my table was really untidy throughout the week. haha
Ive been really out of focus these past few days and just not feeling that well...not sick or anything maybe just a lack of motivation. So my classes this week went by normally and I realised how lucky I was to be in university. Seriously, I felt so blessed to for this opportunity I have in my hands to live in an Arab country experiencing new things, gaining new knowledge and configuring a fruitful life as an overseas syariah student. Wow

But temptations...temptations...they really make you loose focus of your goal and targets. Sometimes I find my everyday routine very monotone and repetitive. I still find it hard to be friends with Arabs, I dont understand my some of my lectures, maintaining friendships is hard etc but Im sure all of these will pass by quickly and I pray that I will overcome these obstacles slowly. Alhamdulillah for my gang of beautiful souls to bring me up whenever Im exhausted with everything. Leggo!

Moving on from depressing things...the subjects I'm taking this semester are pretty good I would say they are:
- Tafsir Ayat Ahkam (the tafsir of some Islamic Laws from Quran)
- Tilawah/1 (memorising juz 29&30 and studying tajweed)
- Furoq Zawaj (talak etc)
- Maharat Tafkir *(the only non-syariah subject this sem, its about thinking skills)
- Muamalat/1 (Transactions/Dealings under Islamic Law)
- Qawaid Lughowiyah fil Fiqhiyyah (Arabic grammer)

Stating these down really makes me feel like I'm studying amazing things....which I am Alhamdulillahx100

Ok, so its no surprise I watch youtube videos everrydayy....and recently I watched this Indonesian girl who posts random videos on her channel and in a few videos she recited some spoken word poetry. I love spoken word poetry! haisss I want to write again :(

Today is Friday and the kakak2 welfare organized a mini sports/get-together event at King Abdullah Park but I didnt go cause want to study. 31/10 da first paper....doakan for this confused sister, k guys? :))) The guys went to Wadi Rum yesterday after school. Jauh pe...tetapi lelaki senang kan. Go jer. This weekend is kinda bonding day between juniors and seniors and a form of getaway before exams come. Yesterday after school, me and some of my friends went to balad to buy some kurma and minyak attar and after that we went to the abaya section and there was a sale at almost every shop we passed by. I ended up giving in to temptations....heh and bought 2 abayas! one was around 8jd and the other was 12jd....sorry umi :') but it was on saleeee

Did I mention that I went to a book fair at Amman last week? Me and my roommate went around the fair with our lovely senior and she adviced us on what kind of books to buy as research or as pleasure reading. She told us to make friends with people who can guide us about the different books written by distinct scholars and we even bought arabic khat books for us to practise...cute tk :) haha and she told us she wajibkan baca one page each day of the books yang bukan untuk sekolah. Good kan? I'm also trying to do that and now I'm currently at pg 10 of Zaadul ma'ad fi khairil I'bad by Ibn Al-Qayyim. Sloooow and steady right. But can I buy consistency at a shop somewhere? I seem to always run out of it..lel

Ok, will post another update on my life soon in sha Allah
(sorry for this messy post)
Assalamualaikum xx

Welcoming a new semester

ASSALAMUALAIKUM everyone!

Wow my blog got so many spiderwebs here haha 3 months flew by so fast and its already October. Alhamdulillah for everything, got to spend Ramadhan and both EidulFitri and EidulAdha with my loved ones. Back to reality now.

I arrived on the 18th of Sept ard 11am and reached Irbid around 2pm plus. Stepping back on Jordan soil this time felt more familiar and I was less anxious even though my 3 month long break definitely was not a time of productivity. How am I going to go back into studying and reading?? Fast forward and now I'm in my second week of school....its quite relaxing since we just started and kinda excited to get back into the student life.

When we first reached here omg our house was super ridiculously dusty and I forgot how dry the weather was....my hands and feet were peeling and my nosed itched all the time. Didnt actually suffer from jetlag so much as we synced our bodies pretty fast to the timing here....maybe cause we just slept at night and woke up the next morning for subuh. Our house underwent major cleaning and re-arranging of furniture and now looks much better than previous sem.

Just now at school, I got my shoes stolen for like 20min and luckily that person put back my shoes at the same place I took them off. I was at the kuliah syariah musolla with my friends and we were about to go take wudhu when I coulnt find my shoes to go to the toilet. I was sooooo mad...like...they were quite expensive and it was a gift from my umi :( only had worn it for a few months. I had class after that at 1pm so that left me a few minutes to call a friend to send me a pair of shoes from home. Nasib baik rumah dekat juga and ade kawan kt rumah....only after I prayed zohor I found my shoes outside FORTUNATELY :) almost cried seh ugh mcm2 je org arab ni....

So far my professors are all good and I'm enjoying school...wait till exams start hah. Doakan ye! ;)

P.S
Cant wait for winter so I can wear my sweaters again :) thats all byeee xx

Year 1 accomplished!

Assalamualaikum everyone!
I know its been ages since I posted but finally I get time to sit down and the semangat to post something here. Finals are over! The nights of getting 2 hours of sleep and eating junk food all day cause you too lazy to cook...are overr

Alhamdulillah lots of things changed throughout the exam period and lets just say I got to learn more and more about my friends here..good and bad. If I were to reflect on this semester is that breaking habits is like coming out of your comfort zone and just feeling lost. Everything flew by so fast and now Im just counting the days till I get back home :) Lots of things I regret....and lots of things I learnt. Im no longer under my parents restrictions and I have to care for myself.....and that can be so dangerous. Sometimes you forget you're given this opportunity which your parents could've just stopped you from pursuing. I owe everything to them and doing my best is the least I could do....but who says growing up is easy :')

Temptations and procrastination....are always there to blind you from the reality and you face the consequences. Harsh. Baru year 1....

Anyway, two days ago was the last liqo' mawaddah and we got a powerful reminder from the head of dakwah unit....his father recently passed away few days before finals and he got the shock of his life. I can't even imagine being in his shoes...and he reminded us to always say the words 'Thank you' to our parents because we never know when it might be the last time for us or them. It may seem so simple but goshh the weight it carries makes us think twice before we say it....ego gets in the way ugh.

After finals....we caught up our sleep and just relaxed at home. The next day we went to Irbid City centre and did some window shopping and bought some snacks to bring back to Singapore. Just a few more days till Ramadhan! Some year 1 students and a few seniors volunteered their names at some local mosques to become the Imam or give kuliah Maghrib/Subuh sermons this coming Ramadhan. Mabrouk to them for the initiative :)

Will post again soon...for real in sha Allah. toodles

Almost May already (wowz)

Salam everyone!
So I just finished my last mid-sem paper yesterday so for a few days now I have a break before finals. Alhamdulillah, left with just 1 more month till I'm back in Sg!
This semester really flew by super fast and I still cannot believe I survived this sem with 6 subjects. Its been a learning journey everyday and I just want to make the best of my time here before we go back. Being a uni student is confusing....sometimes you feel like you have all the time in the world and studying is a breeze for you and its actually fun. But at times you're down and feel really unaccomplished and just slack around worrying about your future. I think I've said this before in one of my previous posts...but its sooo true ya Rabb ;")

Anyhoo
On the 16th April on a Saturday. There was a dialogue session with Dr Masagos and Dr Intan Azura, both working for the government, and wanted to get to know us Jordan students and our developments while addressing some issues which we wanted their clarification and views on it.
The event started around 5.30pm until maghrib, we prayed and shortly after the PM arrived with his 'crew' of ministers and community leaders. Oh yes, it was held in Grand Hyatt hotel in Amman which we were sooo looking foward to but did not get what we expected. But the food was really classy and delicious even though there were some which were new to me and looked weird.

Before PM Lee arrived, there were people, Sporeans of course, setting up lghts and cameras and making sure everything was ready and that everyone was in their positions facing the place where he was going to make the speech. It kinda felt like home as there were more chinese and malays to what Im used to seeing here. haha. It was not an intense evening as what I had imagined and I got to see the government in a new light even though we may not agree to certain laws...I'm grateful for the effort they make for their people. We were scattered around different tables whilst standing and my table got to talk with his wife Mrs Lee and two other govt officials. There were cameras and security guards everywhere so kinda stiff when we were talking but still had fun cause it was just small talk and them answering questions here and there.

Later did we realize, epppp macam tk skola je bsk...it was almost 10pm and we arrived Irbid around 11.45pm. Knocked out the moment I touched my bed.

I'm sorry but theres no photos since I haven't uploaded media from my hp yet.
In sha Allah see you in my next post.
Hope everyone is doing well and may things go well for all of you..amin

Our First Cultural Exhibition

Salams lovely people :)

Decided to post about an event which happens once a year in Yarmouk uni and its called:
Ma'rod Thaqofi (meaning: culture exhibition)

This year its held from 3rd to 5th April and they decided to set up the booths at a carpark in front of the Students Affairs building. Last year it was held inside there but due to the overwhelming guests (mostly students who just go there for food jkjk) they had to set it up in an open space area. Better ventilation..easier to clean up etc

So us Singaporeans kan tk ramai jadi most of us had to volunteer and take turns taking care of the booth and sharing about Singapore to people who come. Arabs sometimes are just so full of themselves and know nothing about other races and countries. But it was a good opportunity to at least put our country's name next to other countries and inform the public of our tiny island.

So me and some of my friends were in the food & beverages group with some guys , so we had to prepare the food for the 3 days of the exhibition. First day it was malay food which was: Onde2 and Pengat pisang, Second day: Keema and Pudding suji and third day: Popiah sayur and Egg tarts.

Us girls had to make onde2, popiah sayur and keema. So fun since its been a long time we bergotong-royong macam kenduri gitu lol. The guys did the rest. So my first day at the Singapore booth was super duper....awkward and lots of listening into other people's conversations and me just saying 'ahlan wa sahlan' to the arabs who came. I wasn't prepared on what to say so had to improvise je....too busy with onde2 sampai tk terfikir nk prepare cakap ape dengan orang arab haha. But was only there for 2 hours and had a friend with me so it was good la and I was determined to make the second day a fruitful one.

Second day at Ma'rod was 100x better, I enjoyed talking and starting conversations with the arab girls and got my practice at what to say to them so by doing so I had a script in my head. Even the asian students from Brunei, Malaysia came and asked lots of questions which I gladly answered and we shared unknown facts about each others country,
On that day I didn't get to walk around that much but managed to go to Algeria, Palestine and Syria which was so crowded and packed with people. Palestine and Syria had the biggest booths and I recorded a video of them dancing to one of their songs. Didn't understand the lyrics but felt that it had a deep meaning about their country's situation. Algeria had students who spoke english so we learnt a lot about the country. Its a mixture of Morocco and Turkey but suffers economically. All in all it was a fun day.

The final day was the best of all because me and my friend got to go to all the booths and took pictures, learnt more about different countries, ate their food and we got to meet new people. The last day was special also because most of us wore baju kurung and the guys planned last minute a silat and dikir barat performance because we felt that we were lacking in showing something traditional besides our food. Unfortunately...some of us had class during the time that they were gonna perform including myself so dapat tengok recording je :')

Alhamdulillah the Ma'rod was a fun experience and surprisingly the arabs were really easy to talk to and super friendly even though there some who were only there to kacau2 and make fun of us. My arab speaking skillz were put to the test (boleh tahan ah) and now I can't wait to travel around the world lolz. Save money and blaja dulu whoosh~

Later that day, the guys invited us Singaporeans to see an encore of their Ma'rod performance which they were willing to perform again. Thumbs up to them for the effort and we really enjoyed their spontan dikir barat.

Im 20-ish now. I think

Happy birthday to me!
Sedih tak dapat bersama loved ones on this day but its okay dont want to celebrate me getting older and (not) wiserr.. eh tak tak astaghfirullah...moga2 ilmu yang dipelajari akan sentiasa manfaatkan diri sendiri dan juga orang lain. amin..

Grateful also for the well wishes from the fam bam and friends. Semalam my housemates surprised me with a home-made nutella/kinder bueno brownie cake (panjang name) so sweet la dorg. The last time someone baked me a cake was yeaars ago tk ingat. Kalau ade orang tu baca ni...thanks eh for the surprise cume part kene sabo dengan shaved ice dari fridge memang betol2 tk expect ;') seronok kene mandi dengan ice...tak cukup sejuk eh kat sini ;)

Im 20! this is a dream guys....pls kejot. K thats all for today...tired already...da tua katekan badan pon senang penat haha.
Salaams xx

Story time

Today's weather was harsh, winter came back and paid us a visit after long days of sunny bliss. Thankfully I wore a proper jacket to school. Everytime it rains the weather drops like 10 degrees and either we are under dressed and freezing or layered with too much clothing. Confusing la but still glad its cold and not summer yet haha

So during our break, me and my friends went to 'lepak' at the musolla at level 2. Its the biggest musolla in kuliah syariah and sambil tunggu untuk pegi next class, we met the cutest baby:) I cannot stand babies...like seriously tak sah kalau tk menggeram bile nmpk budak kecik kat sini. It was a Malaysian kakak with her 3 month baby boy named Abdullah. Rarely see any babies in kuliah syariah cume kadang2 nmpak toddlers dengan mak dorang pegi class. haha ikr

We bebual with her for a while.... then a lady came up to me and my friend, she asked whether we are free to be interviewed for her friend's research. So I look at my friend like: forreal kepe nak tanye ktorg yang baru year satu ni...masih selenge2 ;') So ended up three of us turun bawah psl kawan dia yg nak interview is a guy. Then one of the officers kat kuliah offered to us this room for the interview. Rase mcm official kene soal dengan recorder semua. Feeling2 interview suratkhabar gitew lol. So he proceeded with questions pasal yarmouk university...the faculties...system...environment. Mcm2 psl our life as students here in Irbid. So we let go....of our fustrations with the school and our likes and dislikes tapi english dia tak pro mane la so kene bebual word by word and slowly. The guy was a masters student and he had to research about international students living here but I dont remember his major.

So lepas interview ktorg naik balik pegi musolla utk solat zohor and pegi class psl da lambat. Then we saw kakak tu masih kat musolla dengan baby dia and it was rush hour psl waktu solat. So kalau I da geram dgn baby apelagi orang arab kat sini? They crowded around her and said 'haram! haram! Baarid!' mane kakak tu paham arab paling2 paham kalau dorg tanye 'ni anak kau eh?' They said the baby was gonna freeze in this clothing that he was already in...pada dorang tk cukup...kene ade hirom(blanket tebal) tutup satu badan dia dengan muka skali. Then the arab ladies took the baby and masukkan baju dalam tights dia so that angin tk masuk. By this time, klaka sangat....orang arab punye kecoh sungguh memeningkan kepala....stress tgk dorang ;') Tapi we managed to escape pastu tolong kakak tu turun bawah jumpe suami dia yang dabes class. She was going to go see the doctor for the baby's injection so dia tunggu kat musolla for the husband to finish class. The way I see it, baby tu ok je baju je...kalau nak berlapis sgt tak bernafas budak tu nanti.

So in the end we were late for class, doctor da masuk. Tapi belum start belajar thankfully.
The day before pulak, me and my roommate were late for this tafsir class kat rumah orang Malaysia ni...so ktorg lari la dua orang dengan hujan renyai2. Pastu da smpai lorong rumah dia tibe2 nampak seniors Spore lelaki jalan in our direction....in my mind da pikir: eh takde class ke? pls ah! jangan ah! nooo....pastu dorg suruh blg yg lain class cancel niari. Haizzz apelah nasib....my freinds baru turun taxi kat depan psl dorang pon lmbat. Kesian ;') Da semangat nak menimba ilmu ni...takpe next week ade lagi in sha Allah. Doctor yg ajar is from Yarmouk uni and his specialty is tafsir so he volunteered his free time to give us asian students a class tafsir from Al-fateha smpai surah mane2 yang sempat la.We've only reached the third page of surah al-Baqarah so far.

Okay sorry meleret cite haha.
Just wanted to share some stories yang tak interesting mane lah :)
Till next time, Salams xx

Mini Update on uni life

My first round of exams are over but will resume on the 10th of April so this week has been a lot of going out and playing while we await the dreaded period of back to back exams again.

I watched Batman vs Superman 2 days ago with 2 of my friends cause we just finished our exams and it was an impromptu date. Skali bile smpai shopping mall...terserempak dengan students Spore lain. So we weren't the only ones watching a movie on a school night hah. They were our seniors and guys of course. The first half was boring...banyak mimpi2 and scenes tak penting but the second half when they started fighting was cool and there was an unexpected twist in the end.

Something recent that I want to share is about a guy senior who started a meetup session every Thursday night which he calls: Liqo' Mawaddah. Its basically his initiative to start a regular meetup with fellow Singaporeans to share things that are beneficial to us as students and future members of the community when we come back as graduates. Him and his housemate are usually the ones who do the talking and organize the content of the session but yesterday they wanted us to do the thinking and sharing and so they did a mini brainstorming activity. The question was how are we going to tackle taboo issues in way that makes people attracted to Islam? Technically speaking, what do we think is the right way to dakwah to people of the public? The issues discussed yesterday were:

1) If you had a close relative or cousin who has thoughts on becoming transgender, how would you approach the person so that he or she does not go down the wrong path?

2) A student comes up to you and says: Teacher, why did Nabi Ibrahim a.s destroy the idols of his people? Isn't that an act of vandalism? Isn't vandalism wrong in Islam?

3) A makcik who is about to go to umrah asks about keeping her wudhu while in the state of ihram. So does she have to follow mazhab Syafiee which states that wudhu is invalid once in contact with the opposite gender or apply the rules of mazhab Hanafi to make it easy for her doing umrah?

4) Last but not least, a guy comes up to you and says that he has a problem with perfoming his subuh prayers because his morning shift at work makes it difficult for him to pray and another person is a polytechnic student who has class from 12-2 which makes it impossible for him to pray Jumuah. How do we advise them on this?

Alhamdulillah, we got some answers and all of them have the same basis and fundamental rules in dakwah which are: dont judge and always give hope to them so that they know their efforts are not disregarded and there will always be a way that is not a burden to them as Islam is simple. We have to suggest to them solutions and explain to them in a manner that is easy to understand and passes a clear message.

Benefited a lot from yesterdays session and realized I need to brush up on my content. Been to busy with school books that I seldom or hardly ever read books that touch on different topics. So far I have books on hadith and fiqh but I should read on other things as well. I cant wait to go Amman and immerse myself with the books there! hee in sha Allah before I head back home, will make a trip there with housemates :)

Im halfway through second semester..what even....so fast right. Cant wait for ramadhan also! I wonder what 'Ramadhan di rantauan' feels like? Wouldn't know cause Im going back this summer whoohoo~

Okie see you in my next post which is in the nxt 15432675 days (jk)

My winter holiday (aka Jan)

Salam everyone...I know my blogs been dead for a long time and I just got lazy! ugh someone just punch me out of procrastination please. lol

So since I promised to post about my winter break trip around Jordon, Im not gonna talk about it since its been 3 months and I probably forgot a lot of things that happened, so Im going to show pictures and tell you about my trip through the pictures instead. Lazyy me

Me being one with the snow <3
Listening to our tour guide aka abang Irbid storage talking about Ma'rokah Yarmouk

The place where perang Yarmouk took place...never imagined it to be a valley and nearby Syria

A Roman theatre in Jerash

Jerash remains and it was drizzling when we arrived

Our Brunei friends :) surprisingly them and us Sporeans made up the majority and there were only a few Malaysians who joined. Sesungguhnya bahasa brunei tak boleh difaham...mcm campur indon and bahasa melayu baku bile dengar..twas interesting
Lupa tempat ni kat mane ;')

Nice view right :) we were going down back to the bus from the castle at Jerash (I think)

Sorry blurr...but just wanted to show that we went to Maqam Muaz Bin Jabal r.a. A sahabat Nabi s.a.w sent to Yaman to dakwah to the people there.

Another maqam of sahabat Amir Bin Abi Waqas r.a

Sahabat Syurahbil Bin Hasanah r.a

The entrance to Karak Castle...it snowed the day before we came hence the piles of snow everywhere.

The masjid built on top of the maqam of Syurahbil r.a. The prettiest mosque ive been to in Jordon. Havent visited a lot of mosques tho but this tops the list

Ma sha Allah *-* from Karak castle view

SubahanAllah

Its so cold guys...smpai jadi ice fountain dia.

Maqam sahabat Ja'afar Bin Abi Tolib r.a

We went to Petra! the weather here was slightly hot but still got cold wind

Meet my friends aka members satu block. Not anymore unfortunately

found somewhere along the trails inside Petra

Amacam? boleh masuk natgeo tk? lol

They make a living by selling a variety of trinkets and live on top of high rocks....  we managed to climb only one big rock, by the time smpai kat atas semua dah tk sabar nak balik hotel. penat cause we're so unfit!
This is Wadi Rum (pronounced as 'rum' like the beer). We rode jeeps into the desert and raced with each other. I recorded a video but its too dizzy to watch haha. Temp here was almost 5degrees! Tapi dapat tgk sunset and saw some stars when it was dark :)

Arrived Aqoba' at night and went to see the river the next morning. That country you see there is Israel and beside it on the left is Mesr.I finally felt the close distance between us and Palestine
Super crystal clear water there! in sha Allah nak plan buat trip pegi sini dgn kawan2 pastu snorkel and swim same2 :)

Thats a hotel near the coasts of the river...thats one of our boats that we rode

Its called a glass boat cause you get to see the living creatures inside the water and pretty corals <3

Muka dorang lagi haha

Glad I wore a thick cardigan because it was so windyyy so yes ade matahari but still chilly
Visited maqam Nabi Syuaib a.s and learned about a prophet which was less knowned by muslims

Snowball fight (more like snow photoshoot) at Ajloun. We couldnt go deeper up into the mountains cause the roads were blocked. But alhamdulillah dapat puas2 main dgn snow walaupun ade time limit

Candid shot of us! (excuse my over excited face)

Random photo: Meet Jamilah! cutie chinese baby who looks like a fluffy bear. Her family runs an Islamic Chinese restaurant near Uni

This is another Roman theatre in Amman and it was raining so super wet and couldnt climb all the way to the top

Had an impromptu meetup with the girls from nujum after we came back from our Jordon trip and they came back from Palestine :) Yummy arab food from a yemeni restaurant called Hadramaut

Budak ni selalu nak masuk gambar orang tapi kalau nak masuk gmbr dia tk bagi -_-

Some children we met at Petra :)

Another cutie bear ;') forgot his name but bapak dia yang buat rehlah ni. Ma sha Allah gerammm

We were stranded here for a almost 2 hours cause our bus broke down. So ape lagi syiok sendiri la merayap shooting music video to kill time

So eveyone had to share one bus to go to a pit stop somewhere and it was there we waited smpai kol 9.30malam untuk bus lagi satu dtg amek ktorg. This was during our last day and alhamdulillah it was unexpected but segala benda ada hikmahnya. Enjoyed the long wait becuase of the great company. Cant wait for more adventures with them :)

OK..so itulah summary of my 5 days 4 nights trip during the winter holidays. Got to see and experience Jordon and it made our relationship closer because we spent a lot of time together ;')
Being with your friends 24/7 makes you see their true personalities be it bad or good. Learnt that the first day we arrived Irbid haha.

So that was a massive post and in sha Allah will write soon again.
Salams~
